Add-ons aftercare: what to do in the first 48 hours
By Lumi's Esthetics LLC | October 19, 2026
If you added LED light, high frequency, a jelly mask, galvanic current, or ultrasonic serum infusion to your service with me in Marietta, your number one rule is simple: keep the treated area clean, calm, and mostly hands-off for the first 24 to 48 hours. That means no heavy sweat, no steam, and no aggressive products. The goal is to let your skin (or lashes) settle so you keep the result you paid for.
Quick mindset shift: add-ons are advanced steps I use to correct a concern or push results further. Aftercare is how you lock that work in, especially with Marietta humidity slowing down “drying” and recovery for some people.
0–24 hours: the “don’t mess with it” window (especially in humid Marietta)
The first day is where most aftercare mistakes happen. You feel good, your skin looks bright, and it’s tempting to jump right back into workouts, errands around Marietta Square, or a long hot shower. Give your add-ons time to settle.
Do this
- Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching it more than you need to.
- If you’re a little puffy or warm, use a cool compress for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. No ice directly on skin.
- If I sent you home with product guidance, stick to that and keep it simple.
Avoid this
- Heavy sweating: skip intense exercise, hot yoga, and long cardio sessions for 24 to 48 hours unless I told you otherwise.
- Steam and heat: no saunas, hot tubs, very hot showers, or sitting with your face in steam.
- Swimming for the first 24 to 48 hours. Chlorine and lake water are both a lot for freshly treated skin.
- Scrubs, brushes, or picking at anything that feels “flaky.”
If you’re in the Roswell Road commercial corridor near the Roswell Road/I-75 interchange, this is a good time for a low-key evening. Do your commute, keep your routine simple, and let the work settle.
24–48 hours: gentle cleansing only, and let “glow” build
Day two is when most people start noticing the payoff. I hear “glowing, ” “super soft, ” and “my skin looked the best it had in years” a lot after a solid plan and consistent care. But the way you wash and what you put on your skin matters here.
How to cleanse
Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser. Lukewarm water. Light pressure. Pat dry with a clean towel. If your skin feels “tight, ” that’s usually your cue to moisturize, not to exfoliate.
If you had facial-type add-ons (LED, high frequency, galvanic, ultrasonic infusion)
- Skip actives and keep your routine calm so redness doesn’t linger.
- If you’re headed into sun, use sunscreen once your skin feels settled and comfortable.
- If you’re dealing with acne, don’t spot-treat aggressively right away. Let your skin calm down first, then we’ll build a plan you can stick with.
Marietta reality check: in humid summers, sweat and moisture hang around longer. That can make skin feel “sticky” and can slow down how quickly everything feels fully settled. Keep it clean, keep it light, and don’t pile on product.
Days 3–7: what I want you to skip so you don’t undo your add-ons
Most irritation I see after add-ons comes from one thing: people go right back to their strongest products too soon. If we worked on brightness, congestion, or breakouts, it’s normal to want to “keep the momentum.” You can. Just do it in the right order.
My week-one avoid list (for facial-type add-ons)
- Active acids and exfoliants (AHA/BHA/peels) for at least 3 to 7 days, depending on sensitivity.
- Retinoids/retinol for at least 3 to 7 days.
- Face scrubs, cleansing brushes, and aggressive extractions at home.
- Long sun exposure without protection. Even in milder Octobers in Marietta, UV can still trigger redness and dark spots.
If you’re getting ready for photos, a wedding, or a big event, build time for multiple visits. I’ve worked with brides who started about 10 weeks out and loved how their skin looked on the day of.
The simplest product routine that protects add-on results
If you want the “glow” to last, don’t overthink it. I’m a big fan of quality products and I’ll always tell you what I’m applying and why. At home, your job is consistency.
AM
- Gentle cleanser
- Simple moisturizer
- Sunscreen once your skin feels comfortable
PM
- Gentle cleanser
- Moisturizer
- Hold actives for a few days unless I specifically told you to continue

When to text or call me (and when a same-week touch-up is smart)
A little pinkness, mild warmth, or a “tight” feeling can be normal right after facial add-ons, and it usually calms down quickly when you keep your routine gentle. What I don’t want is you second-guessing yourself at home, especially if something feels off.
Reach out right away if you notice increasing redness, swelling, sharp pain, or anything that doesn’t improve within 48 hours. I’d rather you check in early so we can keep things on track.
If you’re coming in from Kennesaw, Smyrna, Vinings, East Cobb, or Mableton, I get it. You want your results to last so you don’t have to squeeze in extra visits. Same-week touch-ups, when they’re needed, are usually easiest to schedule before your week gets packed, especially for commuters moving through the Roswell Road/I-75 interchange.
"I've struggled with acne for years and have spent a lot of money on expensive facials in New York, London, and Atlanta. However, my skin has never really improved until Daniela. After just two facials with her, my skin looked the best it had in years! I now go back monthly for maintenance and to enjoy being in her lovely presence. Could not recommend more; such a hidden gem."
